Technical
Assistance Colaborative, Inc. is a national technical assistance
provider focused on policy development and housing for people
with disabilities. TAC’s library includes excellent articles
written for the “Opening Doors” series, as well
as other housing related publications.
The
Administration on Developmental Disabilities ensures that
individuals with developmental disabilities and their families
participate in the design of and have access to culturally competent
services, supports, and other assistance and opportunities that
promotes independence, productivity, and integration and inclusion
into the community.
The
Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities is a coalition
of approximately 100 national disability organizations working
together to advocate for national public policy that ensures
the self determination, independence, empowerment, integration
and inclusion of children and adults with disabilities in all
aspects of society.
Corporation
for Supportive Housing supports the expansion of permanent
housing opportunities linked to comprehensive services for persons
who face persistent: mental health; substance abuse; and other
chronic health challenges, and are at risk of homelessness,
so that they are able to live with: stability; autonomy; and
dignity, and reach for their full potential. We work through
collaborations with private, nonprofit and government partners,
and strive to address the needs of, and hold ourselves accountable
to, the tenants of supportive housing.

Advocacy Center for Persons with Disabilities, Inc., is
a non-profit organization providing protection and advocacy
services in the State of Florida. Our mission is to advance
the dignity, equality, self-determination and expressed choices
of individuals with disabilities.
The
National Fair Housing Advocate Online is a resource designed
to serve both the fair housing advocacy community and the general
public with timely news and information regarding the issues
of housing discrimination.
The National
Housing Law Project (NHLP) is a national housing law and
advocacy center. The goal of NHLP is to advance housing justice
for the poor by increasing and preserving the supply of decent
affordable housing, by improving existing housing conditions,
including physical conditions and management practices, by expanding
and enforcing low-income tenants' and homeowners' rights, and
by increasing opportunities for racial and ethnic minorities.
NHLP works to achieve that goal by providing legal assistance,
advocacy advice and housing expertise to legal services and
other attorneys, low-income housing advocacy groups, and others
who serve the poor. NHLP’s primary areas of emphasis are
public policy advocacy, litigation assistance, training, and
research and writing, focusing on issues and problems that will
have the greatest impact on the housing rights of the poor.
The
Florida Commission on Human Relations is dedicated to eliminating
discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national
origin, age, handicap, marital status or familial status.

Florida's
District Family Care Councils represents individuals with
developmental disabilities, to provide education, outreach,
and person centered best practices to individuals with developmental

developmental disabilities; and, to advocate for individuals
with developmental disabilities to ensure full access to communities.

Florida Independent Living Council, Inc. Here you will find

The National Council on Disability (NCD) is an independent
federal agency making recommendations to the President and Congress
on issues affecting 54 million Americans with disabilities.
NCD is composed of 15 members appointed by the President and
confirmed by the U.S. Senate. NCD's overall purpose is to promote
policies, programs, practices, and procedures that guarantee
equal opportunity for all individuals with disabilities, regardless
of the nature or severity of the disability; and to empower
individuals with disabilities to achieve economic self-sufficiency,
independent living, and inclusion and integration into all aspects
of society.
National
Organization on Disability. In this section you can also
find disability news concerning community life, and related
project ideas for individuals and community-based groups.
The National
Council on Independent Living is a membership organization
that advances the independent living philosophy and advocates
for the human rights of, and services for, people with disabilities
to further their full integration and participation in society.
The Florida Council for Community Mental Health (FCCMH)
is a statewide association of about 60 community-based mental
health and substance abuse agencies. Helping to assure that
cost effective and quality behavioral health services are available
throughout Florida's communities is the Council's overall mission.
In keeping with this goal, the FCCMH provides its members with
an extensive agenda of low-cost education and training throughout
the year. A series of FCCMH publications helps members stay
abreast of changing state policies and regulations, as well
as new developments in the behavioral health care field. Council
staff, who have expertise in a range of areas, provide technical
assistance and consultation to assist members in the day-to-day
operation of their organizations.
Brain
Injury Association of Florida is the official state association
of the Brain Injury Association (BIA) in Alexandria, VA and
as such is tied to a nationwide network. The organization assists
individuals with brain injuries, their families and professionals
by providing: Statewide Information and Resource Center, Education
and Training, Support Services, Awareness and Prevention Programs,
and Legislative Advocacy.
The Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program (BSCIP) is to provide
eligible Florida residents, who sustain traumatic brain or spinal
cord injuries, an opportunity to participate in a rehabilitation
program. Public information, prevention, education and research
programs have been and will continue to be implemented to promote
public awareness and reduce the incidence of brain and spinal
cord injuries.

National Low
Income Housing Coalition is dedicated solely to ending America’s
affordable housing crisis. NLIHC educates, organizes and advocates

for everyone. NLIHC provides up-to-date information, formulates
policy, and educates the public on housing needs and the strategies
for solutions.
The National
Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO)
is the leading housing and community development advocate for
the provision of adequate and affordable housing and strong,
viable communities for all Americans—particularly those
with low- and moderate-incomes. Our members administer HUD programs
such as Public Housing, Section 8, CDBG and HOME.

The
National Housing Institute is a 27-year old independent
nonprofit organization that examines the issues causing the
crisis in housing and community in America. NHI examines the
key issues affecting affordable housing and community development
practitioners and their supporters. These issues include housing,
jobs, safety, and education, with an emphasis on housing and
economic development, as well as poverty and racism, disinvestment
and lack of employment, and breakdown of the social fabric.

National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) is a nonprofit,
grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organization of
consumers, families, and friends of people with severe mental
illnesses, such as schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar
disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and anxiety disorders.
The
Deaf Services Bureau of West central Florida provides advocacy
to the deaf individual by educating the hearing community of
the needs and rights of the individual. We also explain the
benefits to the hearing population of working together with
the deaf community. Seminars are provided and made accessible
to the deaf and hard hearing through interpreters and assistive
listening devices. Housing: The DSB is in the process of either
acquiring an existing complex or building a new complex for
people who are deaf or have a disability.
The
Fair Housing Continuum, Inc. services include counseling
to individuals on their federal and state fair housing rights;
provides technical assistance to businesses, civic organizations
and government agencies throughout Central Florida to help them
develop strategies to fair housing issues; conducts seminars,
workshops, and presentations on various topics relating to issues
in fair housing; processes housing discrimination complaints
and attempts conciliation with the client and the respondent.
Association
for Retarded Citizens of Florida is a commitment to promoting,
for all people with mental retardation and other developmental
disabilities, the opportunity to choose and realize their goals
of where and how they learn, live, work and access leisure activities.
