ANNOUNCING FINALISTS FOR THE NONPROFIT PITCH COMPETITION

2021 Nonprofit Pitch Competition candidates announced! We have three great candidates for the Pitch Competition happening at the upcoming FHC Affordable Housing Conference – the Pitch Competition will be held on Wednesday, Sept 1st at 9:30AM. Each organization will compete to win $1K. Here’s a little sneak peek on each of the candidates including our Honorable Mention.

SBP –“By taking a holistic approach, SBP shrinks the time between disaster and recovery. SBP’s work is unique in that it doesn’t end with rebuilding; indeed, our goal is to eliminate the need to ever rebuild by advancing intersectional, equity-focused solutions that effectively prepare low-income communities before disaster, expand the reach and impact of partner organizations, and streamline federal and state recovery processes.”

Community Lift Institute-“The solution we advocate to achieve equitable housing development is simple- activate, empower, and invest in the capacity of black builders to build and support homeownership in their communities. In June 2021, Community Lift Institute convened a launch of this initiative with over 100 black contractors, developers, and investors in attendance.”

Crisis Housing Solutions-“Our Unique Solution. . . affordable and post-disaster housing constructed from repurposed shipping containers. This housing will be constructed at our “Modular Housing Factory of Innovation & Green Technology” . . . a first of its kind in the country.”

Honorable mention-Releasing Shackles-. “My model through Releasing Shackles seeks to provide people what’s required to overcome addiction and understand that living a sober life takes more than treating symptoms.  Beyond transitional housing, my vision is to provide a community with complete services, accountability, and a business model designed to sustain success for the long haul.”

The Florida Housing Coalition’s Nonprofit Capacity Building Institute is designed to strengthen the capacity of existing affordable housing mission-based nonprofits.

As part of its initial work, the Institute has created a free online course for nonprofits titled: Building Capacity to Build: Best Practices for Nonprofit Housing Developers. In addition, this summer it will hold a Lunch & Learn 2021 Spring/Summer training series; and in the Fall it will present an 8-week Interactive and Intensive Training Series on the Affordable Housing Development process where participants will apply direct knowledge gained on their own projects over the course of the series.

BUILDING CAPACITY TO BUILD IS FREE THROUGH JAN 1, 2022

Designed to take nonprofits step by step through the process of developing the capacity they need to start an affordable housing project, this free course is a self-paced training module that guides a nonprofit through a thorough assessment of its internal structure and operations. In addition, each module includes training material, activities for staff and Board to complete together, and a self-evaluation on best practices related to the topic of that chapter.

Thanks to our course development partner, Fifth Third Bank, this course is being made available FREE to nonprofits through January 1, 2022.

“This course is excellent!  Great learning here for our nonprofit partners.  The Florida Housing Coalition does it again!”

– Esther Marshall, Fifth Third Bank
