LEGISLATURE FAILS TO REPEAL CAP

The housing bills that repealed the cap on the state and local housing trust funds (HB 665 sponsored by Representative Aubuchon and SB 262 sponsored by Senator Bennett) passed both the House and the Senate, but will not become law because the housing bill became a vehicle for other agendas.

HB 665 passed the House unanimously. When considered in the Senate, an amendment unrelated to affordable housing was attached to the bill, which was then approved, and sent back to the House. The amendment (see link to Palm Beach Post article below) was not acceptable to the House, and the bill was sent back to the Senate. The Senate sponsor refused to remove the amendment, and late today, sent the bill with the amendment back to the House once again. The bill died in messages between the two houses.

A great deal of gratitude is owed to so many of our members who put effort into getting this legislation passed. And of course, the Florida Housing Coalition especially thanks Representative Gary Aubuchon for once again moving the repeal of the cap bill successfully through the House.
