Affordable Housing Legislation Passes the Full Florida House
Sadowski Coalition Applauds the Florida House for Repealing the Cap & Passing Vital Legislation

TALLAHASSEE – Affordable housing legislation today passed the full Florida House of Representatives. CS/CS/CS/HB 665, Affordable Housing, sponsored by Representative Gary Aubuchon (R-Cape Coral), contains a measure to remove the cap on the affordable housing trust fund, as well as provide for other services relating to affordable housing in the State of Florida.

“The Sadowski Coalition is thrilled that the affordable housing package has passed the full House, and we thank lawmakers for voting in favor of repealing the cap and restoring the state and local housing trust funds to their original, intended form,” said Jaimie Ross, facilitator of the Sadowski Coalition and president of the Florida Housing Coalition. “On behalf of the Sadowski Coalition, I want to especially thank Representative Aubuchon for championing this cause; his leadership was key.”

“House Bill 665 was a priority of mine since day one of this Legislation Session, and I thank my colleagues for passing this important bill out of the Florida House today,” said Representative Aubuchon. “By lifting the cap on the housing trust funds, we are investing in Florida's economy. The housing trust funds will be available to provide down-payment and closing cost assistance to encourage the sale of existing housing stock, to rehabilitate older housing, and for housing recovery efforts in the event of hurricanes.”

The Sadowski Housing Coalition came together in 1991 with the goal of obtaining a dedicated revenue source for Florida’s affordable housing programs. Today, it is a collection of 25 nonpartisan statewide organizations, ranging from business and industry groups to faith-based organizations, demonstrating a wide breadth of support across all industries in the State of Florida.
