2010 NLIHC Out of Reach Report to be Released April 21

Recession Continues to Push Rental Housing Further ‘Out of Reach’ for Low Income Americans

Speakers will provide ‘Housing Wage’ for every jurisdiction in the country and take questions on the effects of the recession on the housing circumstances of low income renters.

WHAT: The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) will release its annual Out of Reach report at 11 am on Wednesday, April 21. The report is the source of the often-cited Housing Wage, which shows, for every state, metropolitan area and county in the country, the hourly wage that an individual must earn to afford a modest market-rate rental home. The report also provides local wage and income data for comparison purposes.

This year’s press call will highlight the connection between the recession and the deepening gap between the income needed to afford decent housing and the incomes Americans actually earn.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 11 am (ET)

WHO: Sheila Crowley, President, National Low Income Housing Coalition Danilo Pelletiere, Research Director, National Low Income Housing Coalition Megan DeCrappeo, Research Analyst, National Low Income Housing Coalition After short remarks and an explanation of the data, the panel will take questions.

CALL-IN NUMBER: 1-877- 897-0441

To RSVP, please contact: Taylor Materio, 202-662-1530 x 227 or taylor@nlihc.org.
